Makis varis are small primates endemic to the island of Madagascar that belong to the lemur family. Easily recognizable by their black coat stained with white on the neck, the back but also the legs, the latter can measure up to 60 cm and weigh 4.5 kg. The makis varis are the most arboreal of all lemurs, they can indeed live up to 1350 m above sea level.
